Leeds United are yet to sign a striker in the transfer market, even though they have been linked with quite a few of them. There have been reports of them being interested in signing Derby County‘s Matej Vydra but the Rams are still looking to hold on to their player.
New manager, Frank Lampard recently said,”There is a lot of speculation but he is still our player. We will see, but while he performs as well as he did last year, with the level of goals, I expect him to stay.”
The rumours have been hot that the Czech Republican will depart the club after he didn’t take part in any of the preseason games but that has largely been down to an injury.
Derby County’s owner had earlier indicated that they will have to cut down the wage bill and will have to balance the financial books soon. Being the top scorer in the Championship last season, Vydra is one of the hottest properties in the second tier of English football and Rams were said to be interested in selling him for the right price. However, the new manager Lampard seems keen to hold on to the Czech Republican striker.
It’s believed that the 26-year-old is still waiting out for offers from Premier League teams and the Whites definitely don’t seem to be in consideration for the player. Marcelo Bielsa’s team don’t really look like challenging for the playoff spot given the squad they have at the moment, so it is highly unlikely that Vydra will leave the club who finished 6th last season for a club who finished 13th.
Vydra seems to have everything to his game which a proper no. 9 needs and was one of the standout players for the Rams as he helped his side reach the playoffs in the last term. The 26-year-old managed 21 goals in the Championship and the Peacocks will definitely love to have a striker of his calibre in their squad.

For an analogy, Vydra is one of the most popular girls in the college and Leeds United just seems to be out of her league! Pursuing him seems like a waste of time until the West Yorkshire outfit can blow up some big bucks to land him. Maybe its time for Bielsa to look after other possible alternatives in the transfer market.
