Chelsea are preparing a swoop for Inter Milan’s £26.5m rated midfielder Matias Vecino. The Blues have still not confirmed whether Antonio Conte will depart the club, however, Maurizio Sarri is being considered as the favourite to take over the top job at Stamford Bridge. As long as the managerial position isn’t sorted, one cannot expect the Blues to make a move for a player in the transfer market.
However, a move for Vecino certainly seems to indicate that Sarri will be announced pretty soon as the veteran manager had tried to sign the Uruguayan international before. Vecino started in all the games for his national side in the World Cup before they crashed out by losing to France in the quarterfinals.
Sarri had tried to bring the player at Napoli, having worked with him earlier at Empoli. Vecino made 31 appearances for Inter Milan last season as he played a crucial role in getting the Italian giants back to Champions League football.
The West London outfit are yet to make a signing in the transfer market and that will be a cause of concern for the fans. By delaying the decision to announce the new manager, the club is wasting crucial time in the transfer period and is digging a hole for themselves.
Chelsea had a poor second season under Antonio Conte as they finished fifth and they missed out on the coveted Champions League spot. Even though the Italian manager delivered a silverware in the form of the FA Cup, it is likely that he will part ways with the club. The club is also set to lose some of their key players like Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard which means that a new manager will have a lot on his plate when he comes in at Stamford Bridge.
The club currently is lacking in the midfield department as their summer signing Tiémoué Bakayoko failed to establish himself in the Premier League in the last term. Cesc Fabregas is way past his prime and doesn’t seem good enough to start week in week out for a club of Chelsea’s status.
Their only solid option in midfield is N’golo Kante who was one of the standout players last season. Vecino can solve some of that problem and we can very much see him partner the Frenchman in the upcoming season.

Sarri is likely to take the top job so he will be aware of what Vecino can bring to the team as he has witnessed him from close quarters. The player is 26 and in his prime so this can turn out to be a smart piece of business if Chelsea can manage to lure him at Stamford Bridge even without Champions League football.
