Chelsea have enquired about the availability of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara this summer. According to recent reports, the Blues are hoping to snap up the Spanish midfield enforcer during this summer transfer window. It is believed that Maurizio Sarri’s side are still on the lookout for a new midfielder and Thiago fits the bill perfectly.
Some sources have recently linked the Spaniard with a move away from the Allianz Arena but Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has disclosed that the German giants have no intention of letting their prized asset leave the club this summer.
It has also emerged that Sarri’s side are not the only ones looking to snap up the Bundesliga star and will face stiff competition from Manchester United in pursuit of his signature. The 27-year-old midfield ace has lit up the Bundesliga with some sensational performances for the Bavarians over the last few years.
Thiago had featured in 96 Bundesliga matches, scoring 12 goals while grabbing 15 assists in all competitions. The Spaniard is exactly the kind of talent who can thrive under the guidance of Sarri if given the opportunity to lace up his boots at Stamford Bridge next term. His creativity and threat from midfield will be a huge asset for the Blues going forward as they strive to compete for a top 4 place next year.
The West London giants couldn’t manage to earn a top 4 place last season so the Italian manager needs to recruit wisely in these final weeks of this ongoing window if he is serious about challenging for major trophies in the upcoming season.
The potential acquisition of Thiago will undoubtedly bolster Sarri’s midfield options ahead of the new campaign. Chelsea have some top-class midfielders in their squad such as Cesc Fabregas, Jorginho, Danny Drinkwater, N’Golo Kante, Ross Barkley and Tiémoué Bakayoko who are all competing for a spot in Sarri’s starting XI at Stamford Bridge. The addition of Thiago will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Blues squad.
