17 clean sheets during his last campaign, but still no major trophy to show for his efforts.
Alisson Becker is now on the radar of current FA Cup champions Chelsea, who are reported to have tabled a £62m bid for the Brazilian. A move to England could do a world of good for Alisson, who would now have the opportunity to add more titles under his belt, given the amount of success Chelsea have enjoyed over the past decade. It would only increase his chances of gaining more creditability to his name in the footballing world.
With Thibaut Courtois now pushing for a move to the Spanish Capital, Chelsea could use this opportunity to replace one world-class goalkeeper for another; and Alisson would be a fine replacement no doubt. Courtois, as always, is never afraid to let his feelings known. Throughout Chelsea’s faded title defence, “Tibo”, as the Chelsea faithful affectionately refer to him as, has pushed quite a few wrong buttons.
He has now made it clear that he would love to be with his children while they grow up, and being away from them for so long is something he wants to put an end to.
His offsprings currently reside in Madrid. The big Belgian goalkeeper is very much on their wish list and he too would fancy his chances to help Real Madrid lift their 14th major European honour.
So where does that leave Chelsea?
Queue, Alisson Becker. Roma’s asking price for their main man can easily be matched by Chelsea, if Real were to help fund their cause, by offering a mouth-watering fee for Courtois. If the fee is deemed worthy enough, Chelsea will not shy away from entertaining offers for Tibo. Why keep someone whose heart clearly lies beyond the wall of Stamford Bridge?
Despite being considered as one of the world’s best, if not the best, Courtois, for unknown reasons, has failed to reach the heights he is capable of attaining. His disastrous performance against Barcelona during Chelsea’s meet with the Spanish giants in the 2nd leg of their round of 16 clash in the Champions League, brought doubt in the minds to everyone related with Chelsea F.C.
Yes, he was nutmegged twice as Messi brilliantly placed the ball between his legs, and that was really disappointing to watch, considering he is Thibaut Courtois and everyone at Chelsea puts so much of faith in your capabilities.
While Tibo’s heart is clearly at Madrid now, Alisson would be more than happy to fill in between the sticks at Stamford Bridge. However, Liverpool are also keen to attain the services of Alisson, so a bidding war for him looms over the foreseeable horizon.
