Chelsea are plotting a swoop of Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel this summer. According to recent reports, the Blues are interested in securing the signature of the Danish international during this summer transfer period. It is believed that the West London club are on the lookout for a new goalie who can fill the shoes of their current keeper, Thibaut Courtois and Schmeichel fits the bill perfectly.
The Belgian is being tipped to leave Stamford Bridge this summer which is why Chelsea are desperately searching for his replacement. Some sources are now claiming that the Blues are weighing up a move for Schmeichel after his outstanding display against Croatia in the knockout phases of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The Danish talent had emerged as one of the best goalkeepers in English football during his time at the King Power Stadium. He has won the Premier League before and knows what it takes to play at the highest level which is why it could turn out to be a shrewd move for the Blues if they can pull off a deal to bring him to Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks.
The 31-year-old joined the Foxes from Leeds United in the summer of 2011. Since then, he has managed to establish himself in their first-team and has put in some outstanding displays in the Leicester goal over the last few years.
The West London outfit had a season to forget the last term when they only managed to finish in the 5th spot of the league table. However, a new campaign brings renewed hope so the Blues will look to bring in some quality players like Schmeichel in this window so that they have a strong squad capable of challenging on all fronts next term.
The addition of Schmeichel will definitely bolster Chelsea’s goalkeeping options at Stamford Bridge. The London club has the likes of Thibaut Courtois, Willy Caballero, Eduardo Carvalho and Jamal Blackman in their ranks for now. The potential acquisition of Schmeichel will undoubtedly improve their team and add more competition for places within the Chelsea squad.
