Hibernian has declined another approach from Celtic for their midfielder John McGinn this summer. According to recent reports, the Hibs have rejected the Hoops’ third bid for the Scottish midfielder during this summer transfer period. It is understood that the Bhoys had tabled an improved £2m offer for the 23-year-old’s signature.
Some sources are now claiming that Neil Lennon’s side have rejected the latest Celtic bid and are demanding a fee in the region of £4m for their prized asset. The Scottish prospect has put in a number of awe-inspiring displays for his club during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed by the Hoops. However, it seems like Rodgers is not willing to give up on acquiring his services this summer. The 23-year-old midfielder is vastly experienced in Scottish football and has also earned 9 international caps for the Scottish national team so far.
However, this recent development will be a huge setback for the Bhoys as they are unable to agree on a deal with Hibernian over their prized midfielder. It’s high time that Rodgers gave up on him and looked to bring in an alternative from somewhere else if he is serious about strengthening his midfield going into the new season.
The Scottish talent is very versatile and primarily plays in central midfield but can also be deployed on the left flank, which makes him a perfect fit for any of his potential suitors. Hence, McGinn has the potential to be a future star at Celtic Park but only if the two clubs can agree on a fee in the near future.
The Glaswegian giants managed to pull off a domestic treble in the last campaign and has started this season on a positive note by winning back to back matches in Europe with a 3-0 scoreline.
The addition of McGinn would have definitely improved Rodgers’ midfield options ahead of the new season. Celtic have a whole host of promising midfielders in their squad such as Scott Brown, Tom Rogic, Kieran Tierney, James Forrest and Olivier Ntcham who are all competing for a midfield berth in Rodgers’ starting XI.

The potential acquisition of McGinn would have undoubtedly bolstered their team significantly and added more competition for places within the Hoops squad. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of McGinn and whether he ends up staying with the Hibs this summer.
