Celtic are looking to tie down their Belgian defender Dedryck Boyata to a new and improved deal amidst interest from a whole host of clubs this summer. According to recent reports, the Hoops are hoping to retain his services for the long-run by offering him a brand new, long-term contract which will extend his stay at Celtic Park.
Boyata has just one year remaining on his current deal with the Bhoys so Brendan Rodgers is keen on extending his contract in order to fend off strong interest from other sides in the coming weeks. Some sources are now claiming that the Hoops are planning to open fresh contracts talks with the player after he returns from his holidays later this month.
The Belgian sensation has been in brilliant form for the Glaswegian giants over the past few campaigns which have not gone unnoticed by other clubs. Boyata had made 39 appearances for Celtic last season and has 3 goals and 3 assists to his name in all competitions. The 27-year-old has also done well for the Belgian national team in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia where he represented his country and helped them secure two wins on the spin against Panama and Tunisia respectively.
Boyata ended up earning a bronze medal in this prestigious tournament which has established his name amongst the best defenders in the world.
The Bhoys had another emphatic campaign after they were able to bag a domestic treble last season. However, their performance in the UEFA Champions League has not been promising over the last few seasons. Hence, Rodgers’ team can’t afford to let go of their most talented players like Boyata as it will significantly deplete their squad ahead of the new season.
Although, the Glaswegian side could look to use the money generated from his potential sale to bolster other areas of their squad, yet it is a gamble not worth the risk. Rodgers needs to devise a transfer plan and work accordingly if he wants to improve and maintain his team’s dominance in Scotland. If the Parkhead outfit does end up parting ways with the Belgian international, then they would also need to bring in a suitable replacement who will be capable enough to strengthen their backline significantly.

Boyata should definitely look to stay at Glasgow and opt against a move to some other club this summer as he is already getting regular game time at Celtic Park which might help him secure some more trophies in the next few years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Boyata and whether he ends up penning a new deal with the Hoops.
