Brendan Rodgers has only made Celtic’s dominance in Scotland stronger in the last two seasons. However, the lack of progress in Europe will see the former Liverpool manager spend on some exciting names, to try and add some quality to the first team for the upcoming campaign.
The Celts can attract even the best of stars in Scotland but one player they are struggling to land is John McGinn. The 23-year old has just a year left on his current deal with Hibernian and has been a transfer target for both Celtic and Rangers this summer.
An initial £1.5m bid was knocked back by the Hibs earlier this week but Celtic returned with an improved £1.75m offer, hoping to convince the Scottish side. However, Neil Lennon has now claimed that McGinn will be available for his side’s game in the Europa League later this week. This will be a huge blow for Celtic but here are three replacement they should look to sign this summer:
Maikel Kieftenbeld (Birmingham City):
Having joined the Blues in 2015, Kieftenbeld has been in decent form for the club, making an impression at both ends of the field. He is not as technically gifted as McGinn but will come to Glasgow as an experienced addition to their midfield. He is 28 and could slot into various roles in the middle of the park for Celtic and is a decent alternative for McGinn this summer.
Jeremie Boga (Chelsea):
The 21-year old may not be as defensively effective as the Hibs man but Boga is a gifted footballer, who can make a serious impact in the Premiership. He spent the last season on loan at Birmingham, polishing his reputation but does not seem to have a future at Chelsea anytime soon. He will certainly be up for grabs this summer and is a decent option for Rodgers.

Joe Allen (Stoke City):
Though the Potters are determined to retain the Welsh international, Joe Allen could be easily tempted to play for Celtic, in the Champions League next season. He was one of the best players for Stoke City last season, as they failed to avoid relegation and Allen might be interested to leave the Championship this summer. A reunion with Rodgers, who brought him to Liverpool from Swansea, could well be on the cards this summer.
