Burnley will be venturing in unchartered territory in the upcoming season as they prepare themselves for the Europa League. Sean Dyche’s men punched above their weight to finish seventh last season and gained a European spot leaving behind much-fancied teams. The Clarets will be aware that they will need to bring in more depth in their squad as they will have to face an extra set of fixtures in the upcoming season.
Burnley lost the services of Scott Arfield who went on to join Rangers on a free transfer and Dyche is looking to replace him by bringing in Swansea City’s midfielder Sam Clucas who can fill the void down the left midfield. Dyche is said to be an admirer of Clucas as he had earlier tried to sign him, though, the Englishman went on to move to the Liberty Stadium.
The Swans have gone down to the Championship so Graham Potter will find it tough to hold on to his key players. The club will also not be entitled to get the financial benefits which one enjoys while playing in the top division so there can be few departures from the club.
With the Clarets in the Europa League, the player will also love to have a chance to play in the European competitions and with a top-flight club calling for Clucas, it will be hard for the Swans to keep hold of their man.
Clucas was a regular feature down the left for his side as he had made 39 appearances in all competitions last season. He managed a tally of 3 goals and 2 assists and the Swans faithful would have wanted him to contribute a bit more on the attacking front. The team scored the joint lowest number of goals in the Premier League as they managed to find the net just 28 times.
Clucas will likely be a squad player at Burnley as Dyche has an able option in Robbie Brady who can play down the left midfield role, though, with extra fixtures of Europa League and Domestic Cup competitions to compete in, Clucas should find himself a decent amount of game time at Turf Moor.
The 27-year-old is not going to be one of those sensational signings but a player like him can be an important acquisition as he will bring depth to the squad and will add competition for places. Dyche has been wanting him for quite a while now and maybe now is the time that he will get him at Turf Moor.
