Bournemouth are plotting a move for Brentford frontman Ollie Watkins this summer. According to recent reports, the Cherries are hoping to seal a move for the English wide man during this summer transfer period. However, they are not the only ones looking to recruit the talented Championship prospect and will face stiff competition from Crystal Palace in pursuit of the 22-year-old’s signature in this post-season.
Watkins had put in a number of excellent displays for the Bees during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. Some sources are now claiming that Eddie Howe’s team are planning to secure the services of the Brentford prospect this summer as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of another season in the English top-flight.
He has been one of the Bees’ standout players at Griffin Park since his move from Exeter City last summer. It is understood that Howe is a big admirer of Watkins’ talents and is eager to snap him up in the coming weeks. The 22-year-old is exactly the kind of player who can flourish under the masterful guidance of Eddie Howe at the Vitality Stadium if given the opportunity to showcase his talents in the top tier of English football.
The English wide man had made 45 appearances in the Skybet Championship, scoring 10 goals while creating 5 assists so far. However, he is still unproven at the top level so it could turn out to be a gamble for the Cherries to sign him.
The South-coast club had an excellent campaign last season when they managed to claim an impressive 12th placed finish in the top tier of England. However, Howe needs to inject some quality to his squad this summer so that the Cherries can push on and achieve a top-half finish in the upcoming season.
The potential acquisition of Watkins will undoubtedly bolster Howe’s attacking options at the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth have some promising attacking talents such as Joshua King, Callum Wilson, Jermaine Defoe and Lys Mousset vying for a starting berth in Howe’s first XI. The addition of Watkins will improve their team significantly and add more competition for places with the Cherries squad.
