Bournemouth are interested in securing the services of Hertha Berlin left-back Marvin Plattenhardt this summer. According to recent reports, the Cherries are planning to make a move for the German international during the summer transfer period. It is understood that Eddie Howe’s team are on the lookout for a new left-back and are eager to snap up the Hertha Berlin star ahead of the new campaign.
The Filderstadt-born player had a brilliant campaign last term and had put in a number of eye-catching displays at the back for the German side which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. The 26-year-old had featured in 38 matches for Hertha Berlin last season and had 8 assists to his name in all competitions. Some sources are now claiming that a number of English top-flight clubs are looking to recruit the Bundesliga defender which includes the Cherries.
Plattenhardt’s contributions for the Berlin outfit saw him get rewarded with a place on Germany’s 2018 FIFA World Cup squad. He had made one appearance in the competition but couldn’t help his country earn a passage through to the knockout stages of the tournament.
The German sensation has a lot of experience in the Bundesliga but is still untested in English football. Hence, a move for him could be a gamble for Bournemouth as they look to challenge on all fronts next season.
Eddie Howe’s men had a brilliant campaign last season when they managed to claim an impressive 12th placed finish in the top tier of England. However, they are in need of some injection of quality this summer so that the Cherries can push on and attain a top-half finish in the upcoming campaign.
The potential acquisition of Plattenhardt will undoubtedly bolster Howe’s defensive options at the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth have defensive talents such as Nathan Ake, Steve Cook, Simon Francis and Charlie Daniels vying for a starting berth in Howe’s first-team. The addition of Plattenhardt will improve their team significantly and add more competition for places with the Cherries squad.
