Unai Emery’s first transfer window at Arsenal has been an eventful one so far. The former PSG boss has already added three fresh faces to a squad that lacked consistency last season and these additions, with more to come, are sure to push a few of the squad players out of the club this summer.
There are a number of players struggling for game time at the club and one such player, who is now inching closer to an exit is David Ospina.
The Colombian international, who joined Arsenal in 2014 made 18 league appearances in his first season at the club but failed to impress Arsene Wenger enough to be his first choice. He remained as a backup, playing mostly in cup competitions, and made just four starts in the Premier League last season.
He played a total of 21 games in all competitions last season but was the no.1 for his nation in the 2018 World Cup in Russia recently. He is still 29 and at the peak of his career and will want to play week-in, week-out, which might not be a possibility at the Emirates Stadium.
Emery has decided to replace Petr Cech in the first team with Bernd Leno, who has already signed for Arsenal this summer. Cech, though is now 36, still has a year left on his contract and is not going to be sold any time soon. His experience is crucial for Leno settling in at the club so Ospina will drop further down the pecking order.
Hence it does not come as a surprise that the player’s agent is actively looking for potential destinations and reports in Turkey now claim that Super Lig giants have held positive talks with Ospina’s agent, who is currently in Istanbul.
A transfer target for Boca Juniors as well, Ospina is an established shot-stopper, who has loads of experience at the highest level. He has had his nervous moments in his time in England but has produced some match-winning performances for the club.

However, he has just a year left on his current contract and there is very little chance that the Colombian will sign a contract extension this year. So Arsenal might be forced to sell him this summer, to avoid losing him on a free transfer at the end of the next season. Both Boca Juniors and Fenerbahce could land him in a cut-price deal and this move is probably best for all parties, giving Ospina a chance to start games regularly elsewhere.
