Being compared to a great like Patrick Vieira is never an easy task to live up to. Steven N’Zonzi knows all the about the pressure of being seen as someone who can emulate the likes of the Arsenal legend. To make matters more interesting, Arsenal are now said to be in the market for a midfielder and are looking to purchase Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi to strengthen their midfield.
N’Zonzi and the new Gunners boss Unai Emery enjoyed a successful time together at Sevilla before the manager’s departure to French champions Paris Saint-Germain. Calm and composed on the ball with a good passing range, the Frenchman is exactly someone who Arsenal require to play in the middle of the field if they are to challenge for the biggest prize in English Football.
The Gunners had a below par showing last season and are keen to make amends come the start of the 2018-2019 league campaign. The purchase of the French defensive midfielder will be a step in the right direction should Arsenal be successful in signing the 29-year-old.
Sevilla had a disappointing end to the previous La Liga campaign as the Los Palanganas slumped to a 7th place finish in their league standings winning 17 matches but suffering 14 defeats. They booked a place in the Europa League second qualifying round but many viewed that as a step back for a club who were tipped highly to end the season with qualification into the Champions League.
Sevilla began the season under the guidance of Eduardo Berizzo but poor performances in the La Liga saw the manager depart the club. Vincenzo Montella was then appointed to take charge of the Spanish outfit in December and Sevilla started to look like a different team to the one that was left behind by Berizzo.
Their overall performances in the Champions League was respectable as they came crashing out of the prestigious tournament with an aggregate 2-1 defeat at the hands of German champions Bayern Munich. Sevilla finished runners-up to Barcelona in their pursuit for glory in the Copa del Rey. The Spanish outfit has been under the guidance of caretaker manager Joaquin Caparros since the 28th of April.
