Arsenal are looking to go after yet another goalkeeper this summer with rumours circulating over the futures of Petr Cech and David Ospina. The Gunners are reportedly going after Borussia Monchengladbach’s Yann Sommer as a potential replacement for either of the aforementioned duo as the club has apparently entered into ‘advanced talks’ for the goalkeeper. Unai Emery has already made 5 signings, one of them being a 26-year-old Bernd Leno. However, the Spaniard also has to make provisions, should his second and third options head for the Emirates exit door.
Chelsea have remarkably been linked with a move for Cech along with Italian side, AS Roma. The 36-year-old is being lined up to be a quick replacement for Thibaut Courtois as the latter packs his bags for a probable switch to Real Madrid. Cech has let it be known that he does not wish to move elsewhere and wants to fight for a starting berth at the Emirates.
David Ospina is more likely to head for the exit door now that his position has been demoted to that of a third option. The Colombian international was already prepared to move last season but was convinced into staying by Arsene Wenger. Now with the Frenchman gone from North London, Ospina might be ready to look for greener pastures.
The prospects of Sommer making his way over from the Bundesliga is heavily reliant on both the veteran keepers leaving Arsenal this summer. Unai Emery also has the choice of Emiliano Martinez and Matt Macey to choose as sporadic options.
Sommer is a cemented starter for the Switzerland national team and made a few solid displays in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The 29-year-old is also a prominent figure in the Bundesliga, having spent the past 4 seasons with Gladbach. He has racked up 172 appearances and 48 clean sheets for the Foals. He also has 39 caps to his name for Switzerland and 71 caps for the youth sides.
It will be fair to say that Sommer is not exactly too keen on a rotational figure at this stage of his career. Arsenal also might not be prepared to hinder the growth of their recent acquisition, Bernd Leno. Emery should be looking towards making improvements towards the attacking lineup.

Arsenal desperately needs a winger for the upcoming season even though most of their transfer budget has already been spent this summer. Should the situation arise that Arsenal are forced to bring a competent head as Cech and Ospina’s replacement, Sommer will definitely be a brilliant signing.
