Marca reports that Arsenal are among a host of Premier League outfits who are after the services of Lucas Vazquez. Unai Emery is supposedly quite impressed by the Real Madrid winger’s playing style and wants to make him his third signing as the Gunners manager. The North London outfit have already brought in Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno over the past month and is on the lookout for attacking players as well.
Vazquez could be the right fit into the Gunners system since the club is shy of wing options. The Gunners lost both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott in the past season and currently only have 18-year-old Reiss Nelson in the side as an out-and-out winger.
Lucas Vazquez will be able to stretch the floor on the offensive end to give creative heads like Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Henrikh Mkhitaryan something to aim for. The Spaniard could be fielded on either flank to help deliver balls into the opposition box for either Alexandre Lacazette or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to pounce upon.
However, he is rumoured to have an astronomical release clause in his current contract and is understandably happy with the Galacticos after the club’s third consecutive UEFA Champions League title.
Vazquez was regularly used by Zinedine Zidane this past season with 53 appearances, 8 goals and 16 assists. At one point, the 27-year-old was played in the right-back position as well, being highly impactful while coming off the bench.
He served his country in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and has a total of 9 caps to his name. The Curtis-born player is a graduate of the Real Madrid youth ranks, having joined the side when he was 16.
The attacking winger made his senior debut in the 2010/11 season for the club’s C side and helped the team to the second division after a 5-year gap. Vazquez was always one of the most intelligent figures in the academy ranks with 68 appearances registered for the Castilla side.
He spent a season out on loan at Espanyol in 2014 and came back to make a strong case for first-team selection. The Spaniard now has 16 goals and 40 assists in 136 games registered to his name for Los Blancos.
As a title contending side, Real Madrid have to heavily rely on squad players like Lucas Vazquez who performs on a consistent basis. However, with Zidane leaving his managerial seat at the Santiago Bernabeu, the 27-year-old’s case for selection might get lowered significantly.

Maybe Emery should make an official approach in hopes of beating out competition but he should also take into consideration his other options in the present market.
