Arsenal are inching closer towards a move for Sunderland youngster Sam Greenwood this summer. According to recent reports, the Black Cats starlet is closing in on a switch to the Emirates Stadium during this summer transfer period. It is understood that the Gunners were heavily linked with the English teenager and on Monday, Greenwood revealed a picture on his Instagram story which was taken outside the Arsenal training complex.
It has also been suggested that both Manchester United and Liverpool were linked with the teenage prospect in the past but it now appears that Unai Emery’s side are in pole position to land him this summer. The 16-year-old had a terrific campaign with the Sunderland’s Under-18 team last season, finding the back of the net six times in 15 matches. His impressive performances at the youth level have caught the eyes of Arsenal chiefs who are now ready to snap him up in the coming weeks.
At 16, the English prodigy still has a lot of time to develop and take his game to the next level. He is exactly the kind of talent who can flourish under the masterful guidance of Unai Emery at the Emirates Stadium. However, for now, he needs to prove himself at the youth level before being considered to be tested in Emery’s first-team.
The North London team had a forgetful season last term when they only managed to finish in the 6th spot of the English top-flight table. Emery needs to stamp his authority in this Gunners side and bring in a few young players in order to build for a bigger and brighter future at the Emirates.
The addition of Greenwood will undoubtedly bolster Emery’s attacking options in the future. For now, Arsenal have the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Danny Welbeck to rely upon to provide the firepower up top for their team. The potential acquisition of Greenwood will improve their youth ranks and add more competition for places within the Gunners squad.
