Having put in some exhilarating performances in the Championship last season, Wolves will now look to go head to head against the best sides in England this season. Nuno Espirito Santo has been a busy man this summer, desperate to add quality to his first team and has been linked with a number of stars for a move this summer.
They have already made a number of smart signings in this transfer window, but with just over a couple of weeks left of the window, Santo is now moving quickly to get his deals done. However, this will mean that he will have to lose a few of their squad players, who might play no role in the first team next season. One such player, close to signing for Leeds United, is Barry Douglas.
Born and brought up in Glasgow, the 28-year old has spent time in the Premiership and top flights in Turkey and Poland, before moving to England with Wolves just last summer. He was a regular for the club under Santo last season, as he made 38 Championship starts, most of them as a wing-back on the left-flank.
Aggressive in his approach and composed with the ball at his feet, Douglas’ technical ability and understanding of the game make him a huge asset for any side. He is a set-piece specialist, can create chances in the final third consistently but is also adept at soaking up pressure at the back when needed.
At 28, he is an experienced player and in his first season in England, won the Championship title. He could be a huge asset even in the Premier League but reports suggest that he will quit the Molineux this summer to join Leeds United, in a deal worth £3m. He is expected to have his medical today and hopefully will be Marcelo Bielsa’s first permanent signing at Leeds this summer.
The Whites have been busy in the transfer market, looking for players who can improve various areas in the squad and the versatility of Douglas will solve more than one problem in the squad at the moment. Douglas has a leadership quality that can be effective at Elland Road next season. He registered five goals and 14 assists in the Championship last season as a wing-back so his attacking abilities might see him play in a more advanced role under Bielsa.

He can make an immediate impact, and will certainly help Leeds in their push for promotion next season. But do you think Wolves should have held on to him for another season?
