Tottenham Hotspur centre-forward could be set for a move away from White Hart Lane this summer. According to recent reports, the Spaniard is currently weighing up his options and is being tipped to seal a switch to China during this summer transfer period. It is believed that the 33-year-old is considering a lucrative offer to join the Chinese Super League as his time at North London nears its end.
Llorente has struggled to get enough first-team opportunities during the course of last season and was subject to just one start in the league and only 10 matches across all competitions. However, he still managed to register 5 goals last term which is no easy feat.
Some sources are now claiming that the Pamplona-born forward is not in Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for next season which could pave the way for his exit from the London club in this post-season. The Spaniard is entering the final year of his contract which indicates that Tottenham must sell him in the coming weeks or risk losing him for free at the end of next season.
A move to China might be the best options for all parties. The player will definitely benefit from playing regular football as he heads into the twilight years of his career. Spurs can also cash in on a big money move and use the money generated from his sale to strengthen other areas of their squad.
The potential signing of Llorente will definitely raise the profile of the Chinese top-flight as the Spanish frontman is a former World Cup and Euro Cup winner with his country and has also won all the domestic trophies in Italy.
The North London side had a productive campaign last term when they eased themselves to a 3rd placed finish in the English top tier. Pochettino should now look to bring in some established talents during this window so that his team has a better chance of winning some trophies next season.
Retaining some of their top talents could also go a long way in helping Spurs find success both in domestic competitions and in Europe. However, Llorente is not one of Pochettino’s most prized assets nowadays which is why his move out of North London is only a question of ‘when’ and not ‘if’.
