Besiktas are plotting a move for Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet this summer. According to Sky Sports, the Turkish club has reached out to the Reds over the possibility of signing the Belgian international during this summer transfer period.
The 30-year-old has been subject to limited game time at Anfield last season after failing to put in consistent performances in goal for the Merseyside club. He has been unable to live up the high expectations at the club and a move away from Liverpool might be the best move for all parties.
Mignolet has a wealth of experience of playing at the top level having made 245 appearances in the top tier of English football while conceding 311 goals and keeping 81 clean sheets in his career so far. Maybe it is time for a new challenge somewhere else as he won’t get many first-team opportunities under Jurgen Klopp following the arrival of Alisson from AS Roma this summer.
The Belgian is exactly the kind of talent who can succeed at Turkish football if he does end up switching clubs in the coming weeks before the transfer window slams shut. However, question marks remain on whether he has gotten rusty over the past few months considering how little game time he has received while playing for both the Merseyside club and his country.
The Reds had a terrific season last term when they were able to finish in the top 4 while also making it through to another major final in Europe. Jurgen Klopp should definitely look to clear his squad of all the deadwood and unfortunately for Mignolet, he is one of those players who are surplus to requirements at the Merseyside club.
A move away from Anfield will probably help him reignite his career in European football while he also gets to stake his claim in the Belgian national team. However, the fact that he couldn’t cut the mustard at Liverpool will be a cause for concern for all Besiktas supporters.

At 30, the Belgian still has a few years left in him to play at a high level which the Turkish giants could look to capitalise on, in the new few seasons. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Mignolet and whether he ends up sealing a move away from the Merseyside club before the start of the new season. However, all said and done, Mignolet is definitely a keeper of some quality and Besiktas would be lucky to have him.
