Middlesbrough‘s all-time record signing Britt Assombalonga has astonishingly been linked with a move to Leeds United. The rumours started picking up once it was reported that the player and the manager Tony Pulis had a bust-up in a pre-season training camp in Austria. However, sources close to the team are reporting that there wasn’t anything serious about the altercation between the striker and the player.
The Whites have been linked with plenty of players in the transfer market but as of now, they have only snapped up Lewis Baker from Chelsea on a season-long loan. The Peacocks are in desperate need of a forward who can score 15-20 goals a season and Assombalonga does have all the facets to his game to achieve that. However, Tony Pulis is an experienced manager and will know that letting a player like Assombalonga go after just one season will be a huge blunder on his part.
The Congolese striker managed 15 goals last campaign and one can feel that there is still a lot of unfulfilled potential in the player. Maybe in his second season at the Riverside Stadium, the player might bring out his ‘A-game’ so it seems highly unlikely that the Boro will let him leave after they signed him up for £15m.
His rumour of a switch to Leeds United seems far-fetched at the moment. Hence, we are looking at three possible alternatives the Peacocks can go after if they fail to sign the 25-year-old striker.
Abel Hernandez
One of the names which the Peacocks faithful have been crying out over the past few weeks is Abel Hernandez. Ever since it was confirmed that he will be let go by Hull City, the Whites have been linked with him. He will be available on a free transfer so that makes the move even more tempting. However, nothing has been finalised as of now and the player is being linked with the European giants like CSKA Moscow as well. If Bielsa wants to address the goalscoring problems, he must jump in and look to bring in the 27-year-old at Elland Road as soon as possible.
Jonathan Kodjia
It is no secret that Aston Villa are going through a financial turmoil and they will have to sell some of their key players in the transfer market. The player has been linked with a move to the Peacocks. It remains to be seen whether anything will materialise in the future.

Dwight Gayle
Probably one of the more ambitious options but the Newcastle United striker will be a good fit for Bielsa’s plan. Last season he struggled to get going in the Premier League but has plenty of experience in the Championship. The Magpies are frantically looking for a striker in the transfer market so it is likely that the Englishman will fall down the pecking order and the Peacocks can have their chance to snap him up.
