Swansea City’s Argentine centre-back Federico Fernandez has confirmed that there is an interest for him from Russian Premier League club Krasnodar FC. The player joined the Swans from Napoli in 2014 for a fee of £8m. It is expected that the Welsh side will demand £6m for the defender.
The player was quoted as saying,” I am looking for a different kind of option to maybe get the chance to get back into the Argentina squad. They are a club who are very interested in me,”
“But I need to wait for other options as well. I think it is early and I need to wait a couple of weeks to see what happens. Of course, I have a contract with Swansea. I am here working hard, but really I want to try, if a club is interested in me, to play at another level.”- he further added.
The player seems that he is keen on a move and that will not come as a good news for Graham Potter. The 29-year-old made 34 appearances in all competitions last season. Alfie Mawson is expected to depart from the club with quite a few Premier League clubs vying for him and we can see a new centre-back partnership for the Swans in the upcoming season. With Fernandez’s heart set outside Britain, we look at three alternatives which the former Ostersunds manager can go after.
Ashley Williams
He might be 33 and error-prone but his experience will certainly come in handy as Swansea look to bounce back to the Premier League. Williams has expressed his frustration at Goodison Park and it is likely that he won’t mind a move to the club where he made his name.
Andreas Granqvist
The Swedish captain certainly showed the world his defensive prowess as Sweden surprised everyone and made it out of a tough group and reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup. Currently, he plies his trade in his homeland for Helsingborg and maybe bringing him back to England won’t be a bad idea. He had earlier stints with Wigan Athletic.

He is a strong commanding defender and his physical presence at the back makes a huge difference. He was a regular feature for his in the heart of defence as Millwall fell just three points short of the playoff spot last season.
