Willem II forward Fran Sol has declined the chance to join Cardiff City this summer which will be a big blow for Neil Warnock’s side ahead of the new campaign. According to recent reports, the Bluebirds are out of the race to sign the Spanish forward after the player rejected the opportunity to move to Wales as he is eager to make a switch back to his homeland of Spain during this summer transfer period.
The 26-year-old is currently in his final year of contract at Willem II so a move away from the Dutch club seems like a possibility in this post-season. However, it won’t be Cardiff as Warnock now looks to turn his attention somewhere else in search of a potent frontman.
With the Welsh side out of the running to secure the services of Sol, let’s take a look at three alternatives for the Bluebirds to consider in the coming weeks.
Patrik Schick
The AS Roma forward has a bright future in European football and has featured in 54 matches in the Italian top-flight, scoring 13 goals while grabbing 5 assists. The Czech Republic international was brilliant in Roma’s Coppa Italia clash versus Torino last season when he managed to find the back of the net. At 22, he will definitely thrive with regular first-team opportunities which the Bluebirds can provide him at the Cardiff City Stadium next season.
Jordan Siebatcheu
If the Welsh giants are looking to opt for a more long-term approach, they could choose to snap up this talented wonderkid. The Stade Reims frontman had lit up the French Ligue 2 with some magnificent displays during the course of last season. The 22-year-old prospect had made 36 appearances for the French side last term, scoring 17 goals while creating 7 assists across all competitions. Siebatcheu has incredible potential which Neil Warnock’s team could look to capitalise on, in the next few years.

Ross McCormack
If the Bluebirds are looking to recruit someone who is more experienced, they can definitely consider tabling a bid for the services of this 31-year-old Scottish veteran. The Championship star has recently had a loan spell at A-League’s Melbourne City and came back to Aston Villa in January. McCormack has put in some majestic performances for the Australian club last year and had registered 14 goals in 19 matches during the previous edition of the A-League. The Villa outcast also has a wealth of experience in English and Scottish football which makes him a perfect candidate to take up the goal-scoring duties at the Cardiff City Stadium next term.
