Southampton have completed the signing of Angus Gunn from Manchester City amidst speculation linking him with a move to Leeds United. According to the club’s official website, the Saints have sealed a move for the English goalkeeper in a five-year deal which will be a big blow for the Peacocks.
The 22-year-old went out on loan to play for Norwich City and had made 46 appearances in the Championship while putting in some outstanding displays for the Norfolk outfit which did not go unnoticed by other clubs. The South-coast club moved in quickly and snapped up the talented goalie this summer as they fend off stiff competition from Leeds.
In a recent interview, Gunn expressed his delight after penning a long-term contract at the St. Mary’s Stadium. He was quoted to have said, “The opportunity was there for me to stay at Manchester City but I saw the potential of this club and the squad.
“The manager (Mark Hughes) and Dave Watson (head of goalkeeping) were a big part of the reason why I have chosen to join and speaking to them both was a big factor in my decision.
“I think the club has got a big future and I’m looking forward to getting started now.”
With Marcelo Bielsa’s side missing out on the English prospect, let’s take a look at three alternatives that the Peacocks could consider in this post-season.
Bingourou Kamara
The French keeper plies his trade at RC Strasbourg Alsace in the Ligue 1. The 21-year-old talent has put in some brilliant displays for his side during the course of last season. He had made 21 appearances for the Ligue 1 oufit last season, conceding 34 goals while keeping two clean sheets in all competitions. He is exactly the kind of prospect who can flourish at Elland Road if given the opportunity to showcase his skills in the Championship.
Jérôme Prior
The 22-year-old sensation plays for FC Girondins Bordeaux in the top tier of French football. However, he struggled to get enough first-team opportunities which is why Leeds should look to lure him to West Yorkshire. At 22, Prior still has his peak years ahead of him which the Peacocks should look to benefit from, in the new few seasons.

Anton Mitryushkin
The FC Sion captain is one of the most talented young keepers in the Swiss Super League. The Russian shot-stopper has all the makings to be a top-class keeper so Leeds should do everything in their power to seal a move for him in the near future. Mitryushkin had made 19 appearances for FC Sion last season, conceding 33 goals while keeping 3 clean sheets in all competitions.
