Arsenal are reportedly considering the sale of Danny Welbeck this summer after spending nearly £70m on five new signings. The Englishman who made one substitute appearance for his country in the 2018 FIFA World Cup might just be a surplus to Unai Emery’s needs next season with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette already in the club.
Welbeck overcame his injury concerns to feature in 43 games for Arsenal last term and contribute with 10 goals and 2 assists. He replaced Alexis Sanchez at left wing and helped the team progress to the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League.
He did enough to convince Gareth Southgate for a place in the World Cup squad but might not be firmly in the plans of the new coach at the Emirates. Emery plans on adding a winger to the squad with the majority of his transfer business already wrapped up.
Welbeck, who primarily operates as a striker can play from the wide positions as well. He has a bit of pace under his boots along with a decent scoring eye. While his prospects did not fully pan out, as was seen under the wing of Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, Welbeck is still one of the experienced heads with a decent amount of Premier League experience. Place him as a strikerand supply him the ball from all ends, the 27-year-old will start converting on a regular basis. Standing at 6 feet tall, he also adds a bit of physicality in the opposition box.
Overall Welbeck is a jack of all trades but a master of none. If given the environment to prove his worth, the striker could very well hit a running form next season and here are a few clubs who should make a move for him.
One of the leading reasons for the Saints to be tied up in a relegation battle this past season was their attacking lineup. While Charlie Austin was serving a spell on the sidelines, the remainder of the attacking options failed to meet the required standards including the recent addition, Guido Carrillo. Maybe bringing in Welbeck will be able to answer most of their problems as Mark Hughes looks to improve upon last season’s performances.
Dwight Gayle only managed 6 goals last season with Islam Slimani’s loan signing turning out to be a massive flop. Rafael Benitez is desperate for a scoring number nine, now that Aleksandar Mitrovic has handed in a transfer request.

Troy Deeney seems to be Javi Garcia’s first choice at striker with Andre Gray and Stefano Okaka considered sporadically. The Hornets too went down to the 14th spot after starting off the 2017/18 campaign in such a promising fashion.
