Rangers target Oliver McBurnie has ended all hopes of coming to Glasgow as he has signed a new long-term contract with his current club Swansea City. The Swans were keen to hold on to him given the fact that they are in the Championship and are likely to lose some of their other forwards to top division clubs.
The 22-year-old forward is set to stay at the Liberty Stadium until 2021 with an option to extend his stay for another year. It was pretty clear that McBurnie will stay put with the Welsh outfit as he recently gave an interview where he seemed excited to play under the new manager Graham Potter.
He had said, “I have had a chat with the new manager this week – we had a long chat about football. He is a really intelligent guy who seems to love his football. We got on really well. We spoke about his plans for me this season and for the team, this season and I am looking forward to it.”
He further added, ”I want to play regular football. That was one of the key things for me. If you want to be playing international football, as I do, you need to be playing first-team football for your club. I have only had four starts at Swansea. Now I want to prove myself to the gaffer and everyone else and show that I can be a mainstay in this team.” With McBurnie set to stay, we look at three possible alternative strike options Steven Gerrard can go after.
Jack Marriott
The 23-year-old Peterborough United striker set the League One on fire with his performances last season. He was the top scorer and managed a goal tally of 33 goals. He is still 23, so he can take his game a notch higher and the Gers will certainly have a great talent at their disposal if they manage to bring him to the Ibrox Stadium.
Rhian Brewster
Steven Gerrard must have seen him from close quarters in his time while coaching the Liverpool academy players. Brewster is a future star in the making as he seems to have all facets to his game which a traditional No. 9 needs. Though it is likely that Liverpool will not sell him given the talent he possesses, Gerrard can make a season-long loan move for him.

Saido Berahino
The misfiring Stoke City striker has loads of potential but has been in the wilderness for the past few seasons. Maybe a move to a different club under a new manager will bring out the best in him. The Teddy Bears have even been linked with the 24-year-old striker in recent weeks.
