Rangers target Harry Wilson could end up making a move to their rivals Celtic as they seem to be hopeful and confident about their chances of signing the Liverpool youngster. The Gers might still be able to pull off the signing as they have a wildcard in Steven Gerrard who is sure to have a lot of influence and connections at Liverpool Football Club. However, nothing can be counted out at the moment as the Hoops are going to try their best to sign the impressive winger.
Wilson had spent the second half of the last season on loan with Hull City where he helped them continue their status as a Championship outfit. The Liverpool winger managed 7 goals and provided 4 assists in just 13 appearances as the Tigers managed to finish 18th. If not for the influential performance of the youngster, Nigel Adkins’ side could have been fighting a relegation battle.
Wilson is known for his pace and ability to wriggle out of tight spaces in the attacking third. A player like him will surely be wanted by Gerrard as he has shown some of his incredible potential at the youth level.
However, it’s not going to be easy to lure the winger given the fact that Celtic are also in the race to bring him in on a season-long loan. In a situation where they don’t manage to sign him, we look at three possible alternatives Gerrard can go after.
Alex Gilliead
The 22-year-old former Newcastle United player has become a free agent and Rangers are reportedly being linked with a move for him. Like Wilson, Gilliead plays down the right wing and is known for his pace and trickery. The signing can be a shrewd one as the player is available for free and he has immense potential which can make him a success at the Ibrox Stadium.
Said Benrahma
The OGC Nice winger spent last season on loan with Châteauroux, a second division outfit in France. He managed to score 10 goals and create 5 assists in 33 appearances and looks to have all facets to his game to be successful in Scotland. He is still just 22 so he is yet to reach his prime.

Martin Boyle
The Hibernian FC winger was a regular for Neil Lennon’s side as the Hibs managed to finish fourth last season. Boyle made 42 appearances in all competitions and provided 13 assists along with 6 goals. The player is already used to playing in the Scottish division so this can turn out to be relatively low-risk signing for Steven Gerrard.
Update: Said Benrahma has transferred to Brentford.
