Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata is gaining a lot of interest from other European clubs and could be set for a move out of Glasgow this summer. According to recent reports, a whole host of European teams are currently keeping tabs on the Belgian international’s situation at Celtic Park ahead of a potential move during this summer transfer window.
Some sources have recently claimed that Lyon are plotting a move for the Hoops defender while Fulham and Lazio are also in the race to recruit him in the coming weeks. Boyata has put in a number of majestic performances for the Bhoys over the last few years and has become one of the best defenders in Scottish football.
His excellent defensive contributions to the Glaswegian giants saw him get rewarded with a place in the Belgian national team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup which was held in Russia. The 27-year-old helped his nation progress into the semi-finals of the competition where they were eventually beaten by France, who went on to lift the cup.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that various teams are lining up for him after his excellent displays for both club and country in recent times. However, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers just can’t afford to let him leave this summer as it could significantly derail their hopes of domestic success in the years to come.
The Glaswegian outfit were able to pull off a domestic treble in the last campaign and has also made a winning start to this season with two back-to-back 3-0 victories versus Alashkert in Europe. Rodgers should now look to make some more additions to his squad before the end of this window if his club are to challenge for top honours next term.
Retaining some of their best talents like Boyata could go a long way in ensuring that the team is destined for a bigger and brighter future at Celtic Park. Having said that, if the Bhoys boss decides to bring in a suitable replacement using the money generated from the potential sale of Boyata, then it might be a move worth considering.
