Newcastle United could be priced out of a move to sign Bristol City defender Joe Bryan amidst rumours linking him with a move to Leeds United this summer. According to the Bristol Post, the Magpies will not make an offer for the Scottish fullback as they are not willing to meet the Robins’ current valuation of the player.
This recent development will be a big boost for the Peacocks as they now have a realistic chance of snapping him up in the coming weeks before the transfer window slams shut next month. However, the West Yorkshire side have recently signed Barry Douglas from Wolves which is why it makes no sense for them to opt for another player in the same position.
The only reason why Marcelo Bielsa could consider making an offer for Bryan is if he plans to use Douglas as a back-up and not in his first-team. Having said that, it could be a fantastic coup for the Whites if they can lure the Scottish left-back to Elland Road in this post-season.
The 24-year-old has a wealth of experience in the English Championship having made 140 appearances in the second division during his career so far, scoring 9 goals while grabbing 11 assists in all competitions.
The Yorkshire club had another disappointing campaign last term when they only managed to finish in the 13th place in the English second division. Hence, their new Argentine head coach Marcelo Bielsa needs to secure some quality players in the final few days of this transfer window if his team are to compete for a top 6 place in the following campaign.
The potential addition of Bryan will definitely improve Bielsa’s defensive options at Elland Road. The Peacocks has the likes of Barry Douglas, Luke Ayling, Gaetano Berardi, Tom Pearce and Laurens De Bock competing for the full-back positions in their starting XI. The acquisition of Bryan will undoubtedly bolster their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Leeds squad.

At 24, the Scottish prospect has his prime years ahead of him which the Whites could look to benefit from, in the next few years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Bryan and whether he makes a switch to Elland Road before the start of the new season.
