Rangers transfer target Oliver McBurnie recently gave an interview to Swansea City‘s official website and indicated that he is keen to work with the new manager Graham Potter at the Liberty Stadium. It seems certain now that the former Ostersunds manager has Scottish striker McBurnie in his plans and this can come as a body blow to the Gers as they were looking to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season.
The Swans have gone down to the Championship as they finished 19th in the last campaign. It is expected that quite a few players will part ways with the club including their striker Wilfried Bony who is being linked with a move to Turkish giants Besiktas. The likes of Jordan Ayew has also garnered some interest in the transfer market and it might very well happen that the Swans might lose them. In such a situation, McBurnie will become an important player for the English manager.
Recently the player said,”“I have had a chat with the new manager this week – we had a long chat about football. He is a really intelligent guy who seems to love his football. We got on really well. We spoke about his plans for me this season and for the team, this season and I am looking forward to it.”
The way McBurnie is talking seems to indicate that he is happy with what the new manager is going to offer him and it seems likely that he will stay at the Liberty Stadium beyond this summer.
The 22-year-old Scotsman had an impressive loan spell in the second half of last season with Barnsley as he managed 9 goals in 17 appearances. It seems like the player’s game suits the Championship well and that can make him an important player for Graham Potter’s side as they look to bounce back to the Premier League.
The Gers are currently thin on the attacking department and one can only term Alfredo Morelos as the only viable goal-scoring option. Even the young Colombian is being linked with a move away from the club and Gerrard will soon need to sort out his attacking options before the commencement of the new season.
The fact that McBurnie is a Rangers fan might come out as the only hope for the Teddy Bears to lure him to the Ibrox. However, the player looks settled at the Welsh club and maybe now it is time for Gerrard and company to look at other targets in the transfer market.
