After handing Marcelo Bielsa the keys to the squad at Elland Road, Leeds United are now ready to give the Argentine the necessary funds to accumulate a decent squad to compete for promotion from the Championship next season.
The manager is desperate to add some quality to an attack that lacked spark last season and has been linked with a range of stars from all around Europe. But one player they are now free to land is Harry Wilson.
The Welsh international joined Liverpool’s academy as a kid and rose through the ranks to break into the first team just over a year ago under Jurgen Klopp. He was expected to be a regular in the squad last season but had to be sent out on loan to KCOM in search of game time.
Wilson showed that the Championship is too easy for him, as he banged in seven goals and picked up three assists in 11 league starts in the second half of the campaign. At just 21, he has shown great maturity with the ball at his feet and is only growing in stature by the game.
He is currently a part of the pre-season squad under Klopp but was omitted from the most recent game against Bury. The German revealed after the game that Wilson was not risked for the game as he is set to be offloaded on a loan in the upcoming days. Clubs from the Premiership in Scotland and from the Championship are interested in his services but Leeds have been linked with him for quite a while now.
Ezgjan Alioski and Pablo Hernandez played regularly on the wings last season at Elland Road but they have not shown enough promise to retain a first-team spot under Bielsa. Wilson showed with Hull City that he is certainly ready to start regularly in the Championship and the Argentine manager might even use the youngster as a first choice winger in his side next season.
Wilson is only available on a loan, as Klopp sees him in the plans for his future. The winger has penned a five-year deal with the club last week and will only see this move to Leeds as a stepping stone. But he will make an impact on the squad at Elland Road and is a player Bielsa should definitely give a shot.
They will have to fend off interests from a number of clubs but Wilson is well worth the fuss. Do you think he is the right man for the Whites?
