Last season’s Championship winners Wolverhampton Wanderers have let their forward Rafa Mir leave on a season-long loan. The Spanish born 21-year-old has finalized the move to Las Palmas of the Segunda Division. They were relegated to the second tier of Spanish Football following their drastic performances last season as they slumped to a 19th place league finish in La Liga.
Mir joined Wolves during the January transfer window of 2018. He signed a four-year contract with the Wanderers tying him to the club until the year 2022. However, lack of game time hampered his prospects of growing as a player. He made only two appearances for Wolves and struggled to keep his place amongst the first team squad.
Rafa’s move is a good one for both parties. He is young and needs all the time he can possibly get on the pitch in order for him to continue his development in professional football. Continuous game time will boost the confidence of the centre-forward as the Segunda Division will provide the opportunity for the youngster to build his confidence. Mir is versatile in nature and can be deployed on either right or left wing.
He has tremendous pace and must learn to put it to use while running with the ball. He is able to take good shots at the goal provided the space and time. There is much room for development in the 21-year-old and the loan move will suit him well. Wolverhampton Wanderers will also benefit from the loan move as Las Palmas will give Mir the opportunity to gain more game time under his belt and help him develop further as a player.
Las Palmas signed the player on a season-long loan so there is no loss of expense from the club’s part. They have in their ranks a young player who has 2 official games worth of experience in his arsenal. Vigorous training with the Wolves squad on a daily basis would have given Mir the confidence to go to Spain and show his critics what he is capable of.
