Sensational new reports are coming in that have claimed that the reason for Zinedine Zidane quitting as the manager of Real Madrid was due to a row with club president Florentino Perez. The duo were reportedly involved in an argument over the transfer strategy for the summer on the eve of Zidane’s announcement to discontinue as the coach of Real Madrid.
It is being reported that the first conflict was invoked when Zidane expressed his desire to bring in Eden Hazard from Chelsea but Perez did not agree with the Frenchman’s plan. After things got off on the wrong foot, the situation worsened over the approach of Manchester United goalkeeper, David De Gea.
Zidane reportedly fought to keep Keylor Navas, the current Real Madrid custodian but Perez wants him replaced by De Gea. It is being reported that the decision to snub Navas and approach De Gea made Zidane realize the lack of power he holds over the transfer strategies and it proved to be the final straw for the legendary midfielder as he ended up resigning the following afternoon.
With Zidane now gone, Real will be hunting for a new coach and it can be safely assumed that Madrid will continue in their pursuit of David De Gea. The Manchester United goalkeeper has been a long-term target of Perez and this summer may prove to be the time when De Gea finally returns to Spain.
While previous attempts to sign him have ended rather poorly for Madrid, Manchester United fans will be more than aware of the tenacity of Perez in getting the players he wants. A prime and most heart-breaking example being the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Old Trafford by Perez himself, a decade back. The Real president broke the club record fee back then to get CR7 thereby declaring to the football community, Real get what they want.
De Gea has been outstanding for the last few seasons in goal and can be considered to be the best in the world at the moment. His rise has been extremely significant and Manchester United have been saved by the hands of De Gea on multiple occasions.

As for Madrid, they do have a brilliant goalkeeper in Navas but the custodian is north of 30 and does not fit the “Galactico” bill Perez demands of his players at Santiago Bernabeu. Moreover, getting De Gea will sort out Madrid’s goalkeeping issues for the next six-seven years at least and hence we might finally see the Spanish number 1 head back home this summer.
