As per latest reports, Wolves are looking to sign Newcastle United’s Yasin Ben El-Mhanni this very summer. The Wanderers are not alone in the race as the 22-year-old winger prepares to leave St. James’ Park on grounds of unfair treatment from his coaches. The Magpies investigated the situation between the player and the club’s U23 coach, Peter Beardsley and concluded that the player was bullied and discriminated.
Now, interested outfits like Wolves can pick him up for free ahead of the 2018/19 season. El-Mhanni did not feature in a single one of United’s senior games last season but did register 12 appearances in the Premier League 2.
The youngster broke into the scene with a lot of promise and flair. So far he has not caught a break in his professional career and could use a change in environment for further development.
Ever since he started playing futsal on the streets, El-Mhanni has managed to catch an audience for his skills through social media. His dazzled his way to internet recognition through in his teenage days and was even flown out to Spain to feature in commercials.
The London-born midfielder has rubbed shoulders with Neymar on the international stage and even credits himself with teaching the Brazilian a skill or two.
Blessed with an arsenal of skills under those shifty boots, El-Mhanni could still make a name for himself in English football. Newcastle United had to fend off interests from a vast array of clubs to land the Moroccan’s signature in the summer of 2016.
At the time, the youngster was pegged to be a leading figure in the club’s attacking lineup for the 2016/17 Championship season. But soon fans had to concede that the 22-year-old was only a trick pony and still not polished enough to face the challenges of top-division football.
El-Mhanni is brilliant in tight spaces. He even has the pace to beat defenders from the wing positions. However, it will take a lot more for him to succeed at the biggest stage including the correct attitude to work with his teammates and coaches.
Nuno Espirito Santo has gathered a top-pedigree squad with the financial backing provided by Wolves owners and has dominated the Championship this past season. The Wanderers are looking to build on their success by making further additions in the summer window.
