According to The Sun, Sunday (June 10th, page 60), Wolverhampton Wanderers have shown an interest in signing Leeds United stopper, Bailey Peacock Farrell. The new Premier League entrants are looking to improve their squad as they look to continue their climb in English football.
Peacock Farrell got his chances in the Whites playing 11 in the latter half of the season as Felix Weidwald had failed to impress after his move from Germany last summer. He was previously part of German outfit Werder Bremen and a lot was expected out of Weidwald. However, he failed to cut the mustard in his first season in English football. Nevertheless, it will be foolish to count off Weidwald as the 28-year-old can still manage to go on to secure a regular place in the playing eleven.
The 21-year-old Northern Irish keeper will be expected to start the upcoming season as number one. Leeds United are currently managerless and it remains to be seen whether the new manager will opt to sell Peacock Farrell if there is a substantial offer for him on the table. The youngster has even managed a national cap for Northern Ireland.
The Leeds think tank and management team needs to decide soon on who will be the new manager as every passing day will give him less time to prepare the team for the challenges of the upcoming season. They got rid of Paul Heckingbottom after he was just four months in charge as he managed just 4 wins in 16 games.
The Peacocks have lots of problems to solve as they have lacked discipline at the back and have failed to inspire at the front. They conceded 64 goals in the Championship last season and one of the first jobs of the new manager will be to solve the problem at the back.
Wolves have shown the ambition of late in the transfer market as they have got some top players. They might be looking to bring in a long-term option for John Ruddy and it is likely that Peacock Farrell will be the no2 choice initially.
The Whites have lots of problems to solve currently and they don’t want to add another headache to that by selling their young goalkeeper. From player’s personal point of view as well, he should stick at Elland Road as he is likely to get more first-team opportunities there. However, a move to the Premier League could be tempting for the youngster and a concrete offer can make heads turn for both the player and the club.
