Wolverhampton Wanderers, who secured a direct promotion to the Premier League by winning the EFL Championship, are looking to bolster their squad for the upcoming challenges. They are being linked to 30-year-old Romanian goalkeeper Florin Nita. He currently plies his trade for Czech Republican outfit Sparta Prague.
Wolves were previously linked with Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio. However, it seems like Sporting Lisbon custodian is now off the radar and Nita is now on it. The West Midland club’s negotiation stalled with the Portuguese international after a dispute between Sporting and his agents Gestifute.
The EFL champions are looking to bring in more competition for places. They conceded just 39 goals in their entire league campaign last season and that was the best defensive record for any team in the league along with Cardiff City.
It’s being reported that Wolves are looking for an initial season-long loan move for the Romanian stopper. They can then go on to sign him the following year for a reported fee of ÂŁ4.5m. Nita made 43 appearances in all competitions for Sparta Prague and managed to keep 18 clean sheets.
John Ruddy has been the first choice stopper at Wolves and the veteran Englishman managed an impressive 24 clean sheets. However, it seems like Nuno Espirito Santo is looking for a much-proven option. The 31-year-old custodian’s contract is set to come to an end by next season and it remains to be seen whether the club management team will offer him an extension.
Nuno Santo might be looking for a more long-term option as he looks to make Wolves an established side in the English top division. The Championship table-toppers have made some smart moves in the transfer market and it seems like they are after another coup.
Nita joined Sparta Prague in 2018 winter transfer window from Steaua BucureČ™ti where he had a 5-year spell. It will be interesting to see whether he will again switch clubs after moving to the Czech republican outfit in January.Â

Nuno Santo knows that the Premier League won’t be a cakewalk and that is one of the reasons why he is looking for a proven European pedigree goalkeeper. Rui Patricio appeared to be the first choice but now it seems that the move for Portuguese has stalled and that has brought the 30-year-old Romanian into the picture. Only time will tell whether Wolves will make a move for him in the summer transfer window.
