West Ham United are looking for a new beginning under Manuel Pellegrini and they have already secured some impressive signings by the likes of Issa Diop and Lukasz Fabianski. The Chilean manager isn’t going to stop at this and there have been rumours of them being interested in bringing in former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere at the London Stadium. The English midfielder was offered a new contract at Arsenal with a pay cut, however, their new manager Unai Emery was unable to guarantee him regular playing minutes and as a result, the 26-year-old decided to part ways with the club in the summer.
The Hammers are in the race to sign him along with few other Premier League outfits, though it seems like the East London club is a bit sceptical regarding Wilshere’s fitness and if the latest reports are to be believed, then they are only willing to offer Wilshere just a year-long contract.
The contract will have an extension clause if the former Arsenal midfielder goes on to prove his fitness at the club. It’s a little absurd approach from the Hammers as Wilshere has been regular for his sides in the last two seasons. He was on a season-long loan with Bournemouth in the 2016-17 campaign and made 27 appearances for them. Last term at the Emirates, he made 40 appearances for Arsenal in all competitons and one can clearly say that the midfielder has gone on to prove his fitness in the past two seasons.
With the Hammers only willing to offer a year long contract, the deal is said to be in jeopardy because of that and it might very well happen that Wilshere might not consider moving to the East London club. This could be a big boost for other rivals such as Everton and Crystal Palace who are also said to be in the race to sign the English midfielder
Everyone will agree that Wilshere’s talent and abilities have never been in doubt and in the past two seasons, it seemed like he has put behind his fitness concerns as well. However, it was not enough for him to be selected for England’s squad for the 2018 World Cup.

It is sure that he would have been left personally aghast by the snub given to him by his club and country and he will be desperate to prove his critics wrong in the upcoming season. Even today after so many injuries, Wilshere can be classified as England’s best ball-playing midfielder at the moment and he would have certainly been a good fit at West Ham. However, the contract which is set to be offered might put him off and Pellegrini will most certainly lose him to his other rivals.
