West Ham United had a bit of a relegation scare last term, however, in the end, they were relatively safe and went on to secure a 14th place finish under David Moyes. The Scotsman was brought on a temporary basis and the Hammers later went on to appoint the much proven Manuel Pellegrini.
West ham has been looking to challenge the Premier League heavyweights for quite some time now, however, their strongest bid might come this year under the Chilean manager. He is currently looking to reinforce their squad and they are being linked with a move for Jean Philippe Mateta who currently plays for French heavyweights Lyon. However, he has been on a season-long loan at Le Havre who play in the French second division.
His loan spell is set to come to an end in the summer and it remains to be seen whether Lyon will give him first-team opportunities in the upcoming season. The player has graduated from Lyon reserves side and has made just 2 appearances for them.
He had a decent loan spell with Le Havre as he managed 19 goals in 37 appearances and that has made some Premier League clubs vying for his signature.
Along with the Hammers, Newcastle United, Everton and Leicester City are being linked with the former France u-19 forward. The centre-forward with Congolese descent is known for his strength and speed and is a handful in the air as well. He is yet not proven at the top level so it will be interesting to see whether he will be able to adjust to life in the Premier League.
The East London outfit struggled to score goals freely as some of their key players like Andy Carroll, Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio were injured for quite a good part of the last season. The attacking and creative onus solely fell upon Marko Arnautovic and the Austrian provided a moment of inspiration in the later stages of the season which helped them survive in the Premier League. Apart from Carroll the only out and out forward they have is Javier Hernandez who had a below-par return to the Premier League.

Mateta is still young and has a lot of potential but thrusting him straightaway in the Premier League and expecting him to bang 15-20 goals will be a recipe for disaster. He can be used more as a backup option and slowly can go on to establish himself in the Premier League.
