Germany’s famous World Cup winner and once poster boy of German football Mario Gotze is reportedly angling for a move to the English Premier League. He will be made available by Borussia Dortmund this summer for a fee of £18m, according to latest reports.
If latest news is to be believed it can state that Gotze will be pursued by multiple English clubs like Leicester City, Newcastle United, West Ham United, Everton and Arsenal. The former Bayern Munich player has fallen from grace in a rather tragic fashion and is no longer amongst the hotshots of world football.
Gotze was once tipped to be Germany’s very own answer to Lionel Messi, such was the talent and skill of the young prodigy. He was a stylish customer on the ball and seemingly impossible to dispossess. The German was short on stature like Messi but his brilliant ball control and turning ability made him impossible for defenders to stop.
He rose through the ranks under Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund and was a famous part of the Dortmund trio alongside Robert Lewandowski and Marco Reus. He was a perfect number 10 behind the Polish striker and Gotze wreaked havoc in Germany and Europe during his early years from 2010-2014.
His ability to cross, pass, dribble, score and seemingly do everything a player wishes to, saw him earn a move to German giants Bayern Munich. He was hand picked by Pep Guardiola at the Bavarian club but things fell apart rather poorly for the duo. Gotze lived his last moment in the sun when he scored a scorching volley for Germany in the final of the 2014 edition of the FIFA World Cup against Argentina. Since then he has been struck by relentless injuries, a stomach bug that nearly forced him to retire and has put on weight which has affected his fitness.
He is now being linked with a move to Premier League club West Ham United who are reportedly interested in securing his services this summer. The Hammers had a disappointing season last time around but are looking to make amends. They have appointed Manuel Pellegrini as their new head coach and the former Manchester City boss is looking to bring in explosive signings like Gotze who will take the club to the next level.

A playmaker like the German will certainly add a new dimension of attacking foray to the Hammers team and at £18m, he could prove to be a smart buy.
