West Bromwich Albion‘s drop to the Championship would have come as a surprise to many as they were certainly not expected to finish at the bottom of the table. Over the last few years the Baggies had gone on to establish themselves as a tough side to beat and they used to be defensively organised and used to make it hard for their opponents to go past them. However, last season they failed to achieve that and as a result, they ended up in the second division.
Darren Moore, who impressed in his time as a caretaker manager, has taken charge of the club and the expectations will certainly be high in the Championship as they will be expected to fight for the direct qualification spot. For that, they will need reinforcements and are being linked with a move for Werder Bremen full-back Robert Bauer.
According to reports in Belgian outlet Voetbal Belgie, Baggies are one of the three teams who are after the German’s signature. The 23-year-old made 19 appearances in all competitions and he seems to have all facets to his game which will make him successful in England. Apart from a move to Hawthorns, he has been linked with other two relegated sides i.e Swansea City and Stoke City.
The former Germany u-20 international has gone on to impress in his time with Werder Bremen and his versatility is one of his biggest assets. He can play in the right wing back role and can fill anywhere across the back four. He has good pace and is often calm on the ball. He will certainly be a good addition to Darren Moore’s side if he is able to adjust to life in England.
The defender was even part of Germany’s Olympic squad which won silver in the 2016 Rio Olympics where they lost to Brazil on penalties in the finals.

Allan Nyom was the first choice right back for the Baggies last season and he was disappointing, to say the least. Bauer will certainly add more competition for places and it is likely that he might be the first choice starter. However, the Baggies will have to fight for his signature as there are other clubs as well who are vying for his signature. It remains to be seen which way the German will choose to go if he decides to pursue his football career in England.
