Watford has seen their efforts go in vain as they look to land West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster this summer. According to recent reports, the Hornets have tabled a £1m bid for the veteran English goalie which has been rejected by the Baggies. It is believed that the Skybet Championship new boys want to discipline their shot-stopper after he refused to attend a training camp in Portugal recently.
Some sources have already claimed that Foster is itching to make a move away from the Hawthorns in this post-season following the West Midlands club’s relegation from the top tier of English football. It has also been suggested that the 35-year-old has been left frustrated with the club’s hardline stance over offers.
It is understood that the Baggies declined the £1m offer from Watford as they feel that it’s not a fair reflection of Foster’s value amidst speculation linking their prized asset with other clubs. However, the English talent has just one year remaining on his current contract at the Hawthorns which means that West Brom are required to sell him this summer or risk losing him for free next year.
The Leamington Spa-born keeper had made 41 appearances for the Baggies last season, conceding 61 goals while keeping 11 clean sheets across all competitions. He is exactly the kind of talent who can flourish at Watford under the guidance of Javi Gracia. Hence, the club should definitely make another bid if they are serious about bringing him to Vicarage Road before the start of the new season.
The Hertfordshire outfit had managed to clinch a 14th placed finish in the English top-flight last season and now, Javi Gracia needs to make some shrewd additions during this ongoing transfer window in order to have a well-equipped squad capable of avoiding the drop in the upcoming campaign.
The potential acquisition of Foster will undoubtedly bolster Gracia’s goalkeeping options ahead of the new season. Watford have the likes of Heurelho Gomes and Daniel Bachmann vying for a starting berth in their first-team. The addition of Foster will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within Gracia’s squad.

The veteran goalie has a lot of experience in English football and at 35, he still has a few good years left in him to play at a high level which the Hornets could look to benefit from, in the next few years. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Foster and whether he ends up making a switch to Hertfordshire this summer.
