Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were quick off the blocks in the transfer window this summer. They landed AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho at the start of the transfer window and are looking to complete deals for a number of other top transfer targets, before the start of the new season.
But that addition of quality to the first team will push players on the bench out of the squad and one such player, who might now struggle to get into the first team is Danny Ings.
The English international, who first announced himself to English football with a 21 goal-season with Burnley in the Championship, backed it up by scoring 11 goals in his debut season in the Premier League. However, he failed to keep the Clarets afloat and moved to Liverpool in 2015. He looked to be continuing his form at Anfield as well, before picking up the first of his two knee injuries, that kept him out of the game for nearly two years.
He came back into the squad under Jurgen Klopp last season and made a total of 14 appearances, just three from the start. He did pick up a goal and an assist in those games but was not a part of the squad for the Champions League final in Kyiv.
He is a goal poacher, a hard worker who hates to give up. He sits well into Klopp’s system and has quality enough to be a top goal scorer but Liverpool have Roberto Firmino leading the line and are not too convinced of Danny Ings as the first back up.
Klopp used Dominic Solanke more than Ings, which might be the trend next season as well. But at 25, he will want to play regular football and could be heading towards the exit door at Anfield this summer. He has been scouted by a few Premier League clubs recently but has been on Crystal Palace’s radar for a year now.
And reports from The Times now suggest that Roy Hodgson is ready to do what it takes to land him this summer. Liverpool do not really have to sell and can have Ings as a backup for cup competitions but Klopp reportedly sees Rhian Brewster as an addition to his first-team squad next season, pushing Ings further down the pecking order.

He may yet have a future under Klopp but next season, he might not get too much game time and should definitely be searching for a new team. The Reds might even be ready to listen to offers to sell him, but would be foolish not to add a buy-back clause in his contract, that will allow them to monitor his progress and bring him back to the club in the future if needed. At the moment, he is not really an important part of the squad and could be a match winner at Palace and Liverpool should not stand in his way and his career.
