Tottenham Hotspur fans have received a huge bout of reassurance after witnessing their star forward, Harry Kane agree to a 6-year contract extension. The Englishman expectedly received a bumper pay rise as well from his £100,000-a-week previous deal which was due to run till the summer of 2022.
Finally, after months of speculation over a possible move to Real Madrid, Kane has put all the concerns of the Spurs fans to rest, at least for the time being. With reports coming out of Real Madrid stating the possible departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Florentino Perez expectedly would have shifted all his attention to the prolific number nine.
After all, it is only Kane who might be able to match the Portuguese talisman’s goal tally at the Santiago Bernabeu, having already beaten him and Lionel Messi to the record last year. The 24-year-old will be leading his country into the 2018 FIFA World Cup after just recently being appointed the team’s captain.
Gareth Southgate has fallen prey to the striker’s unending charm with the football under his feet and his worldly ambitions to lead his North London club to the Premier League title in the near future. Earlier during an interview, Kane had said, “I dreamed of playing for Spurs since I was a boy. For a long time, my motivation was simply to close my eyes and picture myself scoring against Arsenal in the Premier League. Done that a few times now, and it never gets old. But now, my motivation is a bit different.”
“Now, I close my eyes and I picture myself lifting the Premier League trophy at our new stadium with my mates. I’d trade the next 100 goals for that feeling. We’ve been close the past few seasons, but there’s only one way to close the gap – and I’m afraid it’s quite a boring answer. As my dad would say, we’ve gotta keep working, keep doing. Keep getting on with it.”
Kane is the best striker in England right now and has boosted his goal tally to a 100 in the Premier League this past season. He is a graduate of the Tottenham youth academy and already has 140 goals for the side in all around 213 appearances.
Real Madrid have been facing problems in finding the right man to lead their attack after star striker Karim Benzema’s form has significantly dropped in the last couple of seasons. Now with Ronaldo’s future up in the air, there needs to be someone who can guide them to glory by scoring goals in the future and Kane could just have been the perfect man to shoulder that responsibility.
Losing the prospects of signing him could hurt Madrid in the long run but there are hardly any obstacle that the cash-strapped European champions can get past. If not Kane, they can now go after any of the high profile names such as Neymar, Mohamed Salah or Paul Pogba.
