According to latest reports, Tottenham Hotspur have made an initial bid for talented Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish. They have offered £15m and it seems highly unlikely right now that the Villans will accept this bid. They are valuing him somewhere around £40m mark and this opening offer certainly falls way shorter than their demands.
However, they are not in much of a position to negotiate as the club is going through a financial crisis and it looks highly unlikely that they will be able to keep hold of their star midfielder. Spurs can play the waiting game as they will be aware of Villa’s financial position. However, latest assessment from Villa has painted a more optimistic picture and our reports suggest that they just might not be forced to sell Grealish as of now.
Grealish will be entering in the final two years of his contract and the Villans failed to extend his contract midway through last season. Spurs are being considered the most likely destination for Grealish after he and others failed to cross the final hurdle towards Premier League qualification as they lost the playoff final narrowly to Fulham.
The 22-year-old played an important part towards Villa’s push towards top-flight football as he made 34 appearances for them in all competitions. He managed 3 goals and 8 assists and was a constant menace for opposition whenever he had the ball in and around the penalty area. Steve Bruce would have liked to see his star guy contribute more on the goals front and that is one of the areas where the former England u-21 international needs to improve.
Grealish has slowly gone on to become a fan favourite at Villa Park as he has graduated from their academy and is a boyhood Clarets and Blue fan. It will be heartbreaking for the Villa faithful to see their young player leave in the summer but if they want to see him rise further in English football, he needs to be playing in the top division.
There are quite a few other clubs as well who are after him but Spurs are the ones who are off the blocks first to make a concrete offer for the attacking midfielder. If he goes on to join the North London club, it is highly likely that he will have to bide his time on the bench as Spurs have creative midfielders like Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli. However, he will be a good addition to their squad and will add a lot of depth and can be a good impact player coming off the bench in his first season.
