After yet another season that ended without a trophy, Mauricio Pochettino will now be a man under pressure next season, to deliver. The Argentine has certainly worked wonders with the squad at Tottenham Hotspur, but he has not been able to get the club fighting for top honours in Europe.
He will be desperate to add some quality to his first team and will be looking at stars who can make an immediate impact at the club. One such player now on their radar is Alassane Plea.
Born and brought up in Lille, the 25-year old started his senior career with Lyon but only made a name for himself in the French top flight, after joining Nice in 2014. He made an immediate impact on the first team, scoring three league goals in his first season.
However, he was at his best in the previous campaign, where he registered 21 goals and six assists in all competitions for his side. He is a centre-forward by trait but can also play on the wing and is not too far away from breaking into the French national side.
Known for his ability to trouble keepers with shots from distance, Plea is an excellent finisher, with great strength in hold up play. He is not too strong in the air but loves to play on the shoulder of the final defender, making a nuisance of himself.
He is a decent passer, has great close control, and is also adept at creating chances by dropping deep when needed. He is also ready to do the dirty work, making interceptions high up the pitch but what makes him dangerous is his positional awareness. He usually picks up dangerous positions in the final third and can create space for him and his teammates, making him an effective option in attack.
Pochettino’s men have English star Harry Kane leading the attack. The 24-year old is one of the best strikers in the game at the moment but has no quality backups for the first team at the club. Spurs signed Vincent Janssen the summer before the last one and spent on Fernando Llorente last summer. But neither player has impressed when given the chances, pushing the manager in search of another striker this summer.

It is understood that Plea will cost Spurs around £22m, which is a bargain in this market for a player with his potential. At 25, he has a long future ahead of him and is a decent fit for the English game. But do you think he is the right man for Spurs?
