Mauricio Pochettino has done really well to establish Tottenham Hotspur as a regular on the European circuit. However, the Argentine manager is yet to win a trophy in his time in London and will be desperate to change that next season. He is busy trying to add quality to his side from the previous season and has been linked with a number of exciting stars for a move this summer.
One such player they are now ready to make a move for is Juan Fernando Quintero.
Born and brought up in Medellin, Colombia, the 25-year old started his senior career with Envigado, a club in his home country. He made a name for himself in his only season in Italy with Pescara, where he scored a goal in 16 games, creating a lot of opportunities in Serie B.
The Colombian was snapped up by Portuguese giants FC Porto in 2013 where he registered four league goals in his debut season at the club. He scored just two goals the following season, slowly losing his place in the first team in Porto. He was sent out on loan to River Plate in January and has since found some form for both club and country.
He broke into the national side as a youngster in 2012 and is now crucial for Colombia’s chances in the knockout phase of the World Cup, against England. He registered a goal and two assists in six league starts at Argentina and backed it up with a goal and two assists in the group stages of the World Cup in Russia.
With James Rodriguez set to potentially miss the game against the Three Lions, Quintero will have to act as the creator in chief in that game. He is a playmaker with a keen eye for a defence-splitting pass. The Colombian talent creates half chances consistently and is always looking to find his teammates in the final third.
The 25-year-old is hard to stop on counter attacks, is usually protective of the ball and has the makings to be effective in the English top flight. At 25, he has gathered enough experience for Spurs to gamble on him.
Pochettino has Erik Lamela, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, who can all play in a similar role. However, Quintero adds a different dimension to their attack, giving the manager a chance to change system mid-way through in games.

Quintero may not be able to walk into the Tottenham first team and make an immediate impact from the get-go but his addition will only make Spurs stronger.
