Bookies have given Tottenham Hotspur 4/1 odds of landing Luka Modric, who is expected to be offloaded by Real Madrid this summer. The 32-year-old has long been linked with a fatuous move back to his former side with Florentino Perez ready to make adjustments to the current Galactico lineup.
Modric, 32 is still at the peak of his playing career, as evident from his astounding display against Argentina in the 2018 FIFA World Cup group stage match. The Croatian thumped in a long-range effort to see his side through to a comfortable 3-0 victory and mark their spot in the competition’s knockout stages.
Modric continues to defy his age by putting in solid displays for both his club and country. He was instrumental in resurrecting Real Madrid’s 2017/18 season by helping the side win their third consecutive UEFA Champions League trophy.
The little magician commands the Los Blancos and Croatian midfield with his technical skill and incredible footballing intelligence. He does not slack off on defensive efforts either, more often than not making key interceptions to launch those light-speed counter attacks, all on his own.
It is almost a fitting tale to the veteran’s legacy for him to absolutely silence all of his critics after being named one of Madrid’s worst signings of the decade in 2012. The Croatian now sits on a very heavily decorated throne of one La Liga title, one Copa del Rey trophy and four Champions League medals.
Modric was already a highly admired figure at the White Hart Lane, having made 160 appearances for Tottenham in four years. He was a high flying prospect coming out of the Dinamo Zagreb ranks and has found immense success in the European stage.
Zinedine Zidane chose to field him over younger players like Dani Ceballos and Marcos Llorente for a reason. Now that the Frenchman has ended terms with Madrid, Modric could look to find his way to North London where he will be warmly welcomed back by the fans.
Mauricio Pochettino could use a stable and experienced figure like Modric to make a better run for major honours next season. Moussa Dembele is expected to leave Spurs soon which will open up a spot for the 32-year-old in the team.

With players like Harry Kane, Heung Son-min and Dele Alli heading the attack, Modric will be able to fit in perfectly next to Eric Dier to drive Tottenham’s offence. But do you think he is ready for the rigours of the Premier League at this time in his career?
