Swansea City are ready to bolster the club ranks ahead of the 2018/19 season and have lined up a number of top professionals. Graham Potter was appointed as head coach recently and that immediately drew up links with Saman Ghoddos.
Potter managed Östersunds FK prior to his move to the Liberty Stadium and one of his key figures in the Swedish outfit was Ghoddos. The latter was rumoured to be on the shortlist of a few Premier League outfits earlier in the 2017/18 campaign but none of the projected moves ever materialised.
It was mostly during the UEFA Europa League when the entire world got to witness the talents of Ghoddos. Östersunds entered the continental stage last term and won the hearts of many with their inspiring performances.
The 24-year-old attacker played a key role from the front to beat out Galatasaray in the Europa League qualifiers with a goal and 2 assists. He scored twice in the group stages as well and was at his very best against Arsenal in the first round of the knockouts.
The Gunners snatched up a 0-3 advantage in the first leg by no easy means. However, the second leg was a different story altogether with OFK showing up at their resolute best at the Emirates.
Ghoddos led the attack by setting up 2 assists and seeing his team through a 1-2 victory. After the first game, Arsene Wenger was asked about his thoughts on the opposition team. The Frenchman replied, “The best [Ostersunds FK] player in the first leg was [Saman] Ghoddos. Technically and tactically I was impressed by him.”
At the time, many top-flight sides had taken note of the manager’s words and were even lining up official bids. Ghoddos’ agent, Ferhat Cifici was in attendance for the second leg in London and was met with a solid reception from Premier League outfits.
The Iranian attacker who is currently representing his country in the 2018 FIFA World Cup has all the goods necessary to make it in the English game. He has a decent bit of pace under his boots and can appear in any position in the final three.
Swansea need a player of his pedigree to serve from the wide areas and Potter already knows how to extract the best out of him.
