Latest reports claim that Swansea City are rivalling Bristol City for the signing of Red Star Belgrade goalkeeper, Milan Borjan. The 30-year-old seems to be on the wishlist of quite a few Championship clubs and has prior Champions League experience.
Borjan is Canadian by birth and is entering the final 12 months of his contract with the Serbian outfit. The shot-stopper has spent most of his career in the less illustrious corners of Europe but has faced off against the top sides in the Champions League.
He played against Liverpool in the 2014/15 season, just 4 days after signing with Ludogorets Razgrad. He also won the league title with the side in that campaign and with Radnicki in the next.
The Canadian also has 38 caps to his name for his country’s senior team after making his debut against Greece in 2011. He started off as a backup to Lars Hirschfeld but is a cemented starter now.
Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, he certainly packs an athletic stature in between the sticks which has earned him such rave reviews from his coaches. Borjan made 46 appearances for Red Star last season and came away with a whopping 26 clean sheets to help the side to the Serbian league title.
The 30-year-old has heaps of experience and could certainly be the answer the Swans are looking for. Understandably he will be made available for cheap which the Welsh outfit will have no problem shelling out after pocketing £7m from the Lukasz Fabianski transfer.
City have dropped down to the EFL Championship and that does come with a significant amount of financial restrictions. There are always unsettlement issues with the current players, not to mention the clubs all circling around the Liberty to pick off the meaty parts for cheap.
With Fabianski gone, a spot does open up in the first team for Erwin Mulder and Kristoffer Nordfeldt. However, the duo has mostly be considered as a rotational option and is not exactly of the same pedigree as the Pole. Borjan could be just another saviour in the Swansea ranks, just like Martin Dubravka have been for Newcastle United.
With the right amount of experience and quality, Borjan could take a giant leap in his playing career by moving to the Liberty. Graham Potter certainly knows how to extract the best out of his players, as evident from his work with Swedish outfit, Ostersunds FK.
