It is exciting times at Liverpool at the moment as Jurgen Klopp, who wanted the Anfield faithful to turn from ‘doubters to believers’ has given them the necessary push needed for it. The Reds are now one of the most exciting projects around in world football and it does not come as a surprise that they are able to attract some of the finest stars in Europe to the club this summer.
But in the last few summers, they have been constantly bullied by top clubs in Europe for their star players. It was Philippe Coutinho the last summer and the one before and this time, it is Sadio Mane.
The Senegalese international, who bears the hopes of his countries shoulders in Russia, is one of the most productive wingers in world football at the moment. He was one of the best players for Liverpool on a forgettable night in Kyiv and has turned into a crucial part of the squad that Klopp is building for the future.
He was shifted from the right flank to the left, to accommodate Mohamed Salah on the right, but that did not affect his productivity as he enjoyed his best season in front of goal, taking Liverpool close to a European trophy. He has only spent two seasons at the club but has turned into an indispensable asset for the Reds. So it does not come as a surprise that top clubs in Europe are interested in his services.
Stories earlier in the transfer window claimed that Spanish giants Real Madrid see him as a long-term replacement for Gareth Bale, who is currently unsettled at Bernabeu. It was reported that Zinedine Zidane had an agreement with Mane to bring him to Spain this summer and though the French ace is no longer at the club, Mane remains a transfer target for the UCL champions.
This has certainly put some fear into the minds of the Liverpool fans but Mane himself has managed to erase all such fears, claiming that he is happy at Liverpool. “I am very happy in Liverpool and my contract will last for three more years,” he told Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten.
He did mention that he would want to win the Champions League soon but was quick to mention that the effort from his side to reach the final last season was commendable.
“But you never know what will happen in the future. I want to win trophies, especially the Champions League,” he added.
This will come as a huge boost for Liverpool, who will want to keep him at the club for years to come. He has also shown glimpses of how he can be a playmaker as well and his versatility and the ability to take on even the best of the defences in Europe makes him a serious talent, one that Liverpool cannot afford to lose any time soon.
