Having secured Champions League football in back to back seasons for the first time this decade, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will be desperate to add some quality to the side, that reached the finals of the same competition last season.
The German tactician has made the club one of the most exciting projects for star players around Europe, with the club linked with some of the finest stars in the game. They have already landed Fabinho from AS Monaco and will also have Naby Keita as a new face from the previous season.
But there are certain roles in the first team that need upgrades on and this has seen Klopp scout for a number of exciting names recently. But he is building a team for the long term at Anfield and is also looking at stars who will come good in years to come. One such youngster, now interesting Klopp is Matteo Cardinali.
A product of the academy at AS Roma, Cardinali made a name for himself as a 15-year old, when he broke into the Italian U15 side, not so long ago. He went on to play for the U16s and the U17s and only turned 17 last Thursday.
He is busy currently playing for the Roma U17s and was influential in the U17 C league in Italy. He kept three clean sheets in nine games, putting in a number of impressive performances, asking to be recognized.
He is regarded as one of the brightest prospects at the academy in Rome and is not too far away from breaking into the senior side. But at just 17, he does not have enough exposure to competing at the highest level and is still a work in progress.
However, he has already caught the eye of clubs from England with reports from Italy claiming that Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool have scouted him in the recent campaign. Both teams are ready to offer him a deal to join their academies and see him as the future no.1 at their club.
Roma may be reluctant to sell, as they have huge plans for him, but Liverpool can certainly do with a potential world-class goalkeeper at their academy, a problem Cardinali will solve.
The Reds have Danny Ward waiting in the ranks to break into the first team but the Welshman does not seem to have impressed Klopp enough. So Cardinali can play as the understudy to the first team’s names and could solve Liverpool’s goalkeeping issues for years to come.

They certainly need an immediate upgrade on that role, which Cardinali is not, but having a player like him in the ranks is the right way to tackle this frustrating issue for the Reds.
